Puzzle #65 - Cobble Hill - Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady Autumn - 1000 pieces

Puzzle #65 - Cobble Hill - Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady Autumn - 1000 pieces

This puzzle was by Edith Wharton - taken from the actual Country Diary of an Edwardan Lady.  I feel about it kind of like about the books.  I wanted them, I wanted to read them and then do the nature study and be so enthralled and enlightened... and instead, it was truly not my cup of tea.  Puzzle is very well made - solid pieces, good image on pieces, basically no puzzle dust.  But good grief I was ready to be done.  While I love being outside and seeing birds and trees and flowers - I am not an expert (who am I kidding... I am barely a novice) and apparently, I like it that way quite a lot.  :D  This is a beautiful puzzle... for someone else.  I'll see if any in the family would like this one and the unopened other 3 in the set (Winter, Spring, Summer).  I'm going to do a scenic one next... you know, wine, view... that kind of thing.  :)  Right up my alley!  :)

To accommodate a portrait view puzzle, I grabbed a piece
of posterboard and turned it upright on top of my
puzzle caddy.  Worked just fine.

Puzzle #64 - White Mountain - Old World Street - 500 pieces

Puzzle #64 - White Mountain - Old World Street - 500 pieces

Fun and simple puzzle.  Just what I wanted. Colorful, good quality, but so much puzzle dust that I had to wash my hands after laying the pieces out!!  Wow!!!

Puzzle #63 - Ravensburger - My Haven Series #6 The Cosy Shed - 1000 pieces

Puzzle #63 - Ravensburger - My Haven Series #6 The Cosy Shed - 1000 pieces

Image by Steve Read.  I am really curious about this one... this is the UK version and it came with a poster!  A smallish poster, but a poster! The poster is really neat in that it has a lovely description of the room (which drew my attention to a few details like the scrapbooking and the family tree).  Do UK Ravensburger puzzles always come with a poster?  And the overall box color is blues instead of whites.  There is a 500 piece version of this called Cozy Retreat.  In looking at photos of both online the 500 piece puzzle almost looks like the colors are brighter... would love to know if there is that much color variation between the two sizes?  And if so, is that a UK/US thing?  Have lots of questions now!  Thinking I want UK Ravensburger (for the poster!)  but could like the color of the US version?  Hmmm....  Note - this could be a bit harder puzzle.  The colors are off in my mind... the book is brown and so is the sweater sleeve.  But, it won't deter from my fun.  For this puzzle you just get in sync with what the color is for the item and then work with that.  Still... took a bit to put together the border alone!  Lots of dark colors for sure.  Turns out I was only missing two pieces of the edge... the others were misplaced.  I removed two dark ones from the bottom and put them in the right side.  So when I had the missing two from the top I had it all.

It's a small poster, but it is a poster!  Love the description of the puzzle.  UK Ravensburger.

Getting in the groove with this puzzle.  It is quite fun!  Challenging but not frustrating.  When that is done well it is pure joy to work!  Although the images are a bit vague in themselves, when working with the pieces as a whole it all works together (synergy)  :D  Stopping for the night to go read the book The Last Thing He told Me by Laura Dave - a real page-turner!  Would have to be to pull me away from this puzzle this early in the evening.  (9:00 pm)  :)

Still a very fun puzzle but it is SO DARK.  Crazy dark.  You simply can't go by the poster or the box to find pieces.  You have to figure some out then search for like-colored pieces.  The skin of her hand is dark brown and the red finger nail is nearly black. The white teapot is brownish. The dark shadowy areas are so black that all the pieces just look black.  It is nearly impossible to see any differences in them - whether they are part of the blanket, the area under the coffee cup or the dark stove.  All pretty much look the same.  However, one funny... there is a line of about 5 pieces that are nice wood color and bright white.  I have NO IDEA where those go!  There is nothing in this puzzle that is truly white!  But those pieces are truly white!  Will be interested to see how that works out... (anything in the puzzle that *looks* white has turned out to be brown or tan... so curious what is actually white on the puzzle pieces!) You can see those on the left side of the puzzle on the white poster board...

This shows just how dark that book is.  THIS is where the pieces with the pure white strip went!!  Crazy!  The colors (and sometimes textures) are just soooo wonky with this puzzle!  Later on I found pieces of the sweater that I had sworn were flooring - because of the color and the (I thought) wood grain.  :)

I was down to this part and only these pieces and finally had to sort by shape.

Still a fun and enjoyable puzzle, but ready for something with lighter and brighter (or at least true!) colors!  Love the image, though.  Love all the 'my haven' images from Ravensburger.

Puzzle #62 - MasterPieces - Mr. Wiggins' Whirligigs - 1000 pieces

Puzzle #62 - MasterPieces - Mr. Wiggins' Whirligigs - 1000 pieces

Wanted a puzzle with not much sky or trees!  :)  This is a large format EZ Grip so looked like a good choice all around.  Opened it up and there is no poster even though this is Masterpieces?  Seriously MasterPieces??  Just because it is oversized doesn't mean we don't want the poster!  What is with companies not just all putting in posters - and in all their puzzles, consistently?

Kind of, sort of did some sorting of pieces as I was laying them out.  I like doing that sometimes - but it feels like some puzzles go toward that more than others. This one worked.

Found myself putting this together slightly differently.  Not big groups at first - but small groupings all over the place. I did finally get to where I was focusing on the buildings as a large group, but even then the process felt a bit different to me - more scattered.  But I found a rhythm.

A pleasant diversion.  This image (and images like it) are enjoyable but never touch my heart like other images can.  So this is more just a puzzle experience... not a puzzle plus memories or daydreaming or etc which makes for a truly stellar puzzle experience.  Nothing wrong, just maybe a little 'vanilla'  :)

almost finished but need to go to bed  :)

Done - nice puzzle - good, solid pieces.  Good color.  Enough going on in the puzzle that you can see on each piece (nearly) where it goes.  I like that.  :)  Sky still gets me... Good quality overall but why no poster??  Image by Bonnie White
