An American in Scotland

An American in Scotland by Lucy Connelly
Read October 2023 - Zoom Reading Circle

A Scottish Isle Mystery #1

This was enjoyable.  Not a ‘great’ book, but a fun one.  I would read the next in the series, for sure.  Of course, I love any book that takes place in Scotland - or at least will give it more leeway!  :)

The book introduces us to Dr. Emilia McRoy, an American doctor who has recently transplanted to Sea Isle, Scotland to begin a new life.  She is excited about ‘small town Scottish’ life and ready for a quiet existence so when she comes across a dead body it is definitely not what she envisioned.  She discovers that she is not only the town physician but also the coroner so the investigation, at least partially, falls in her lap.  She begins to dig into the pasts of the deceased and other villagers, realizing that there are many connections and stories hidden in this small town.  The local policeman, Ewan Campbell, is also the Laird and the person who arranged for Emilia to move to Sea Isle.  As she continues her investigation she realizes that she may not be able to trust anyone in the town until she discovers who the killer is.

Listening to this one was fun because of the Scottish accent - done reasonably well by the narrator Kimberly Wetherell.

I rated this book a 4.  Reading Circle rated it 3.8.
