Evans Above

Evans Above by Rhys Bowen
Read March 2019

I had never read anything by Rhys Bowen until the Molly Murphy mystery I just finished.  I liked it so much that I chose to read this one next.  It is another mystery series but this time set in a small village in Wales with a young police constable named Evan Evans as the protagonist.  It is good and I am enjoying it.  I liked the Molly Murphy character better, but Evan is growing on me.  :)  This one takes place in modern times and I may like the historical aspect of the Molly mysteries better.  But I do love practically any book that takes place in the British Isles.

Murphy's Law

Murphy's Law by Rhys Bowen
Read March 2019

This was my first Molly Murphy mystery.  Actually, my first book by Rhys Bowen, period.  I really, really enjoyed this book and can't wait to get more in this series.  I love the historical fiction part of the story and feel like the author did a great job with that.  The mystery was also good, although I had a feeling I knew who 'did it' early on and was right.  But that didn't diminish my enjoyment of the story.  Sweet at times, suspenseful at times... well written.  I am now reading another book by this author (in a different series) simply because I enjoyed this one.  Not getting into the other one quite as quickly, but it is still good.

NIV: The Sola Scriptura Bible Project

NIV: The Sola Scriptura Bible Project
The Complete Collection - Navy/Tan

I am very much enjoying this set.  It is truly for reading with ease and without distraction of any kind.  It is not broken up with chapter or verse markings so it reads like a narrative.  Visually, the pages are clean looking and I find myself reading more than I would in a 'normal' Bible.  I have sometimes had to fight off my inclination to reach for a map or a notation and have instead allowed myself to just read the story... to immerse myself in the scriptures themselves.  This is not a set for study, but is instead a Bible to relax with an enjoy.  A different kind of experience and, I would argue, an important one.

From amazon...

Sola Scriptura was the foundation of the Protestant Reformation 500 years ago. It was a call to return to the roots of our faith by embracing Scripture alone as our highest authority. The NIV Sola Scriptura Bible Project shares that vision and invites you to read the living Word in its most ancient arrangement. The Old Testament is arranged according to the traditional order of the Hebrew Scriptures: the Torah, the Former and Latter Prophets, and the Writings. The New Testament is reorganized by placing each of the four Gospels at the head of four groupings that together bear witness to the central story of Jesus. The NIV Sola Scriptura Bible Project also removes chapter and verse numbers, red letters, and cross references.
